RIG 'DZIN TSANG DBYANGS RGYA MTSHO'I GSUNG MGUR

This collection is couched in a highly idiomatic language, far more so than the Tsang-dbyangs rGya-mtsho'i mGu-gLu. I am indebted to the linguistic detective work of Per K Sørensen, presented in his exhaustive critical edition of the MS (Divinity Secularized: an enquiry into the nature and form of the songs ascribed to the Sixth Dalai Lama [Wiener Studien zur Tibetologie und Buddhismuskunde, Wien 1990] pp 341-448). It is upon his emendations and readings of corrupt or uncertain words that the present text is based.

Hail to Tsangyang Gyatsho, whose thousand rays
Make blossom the lotus garden of the Muni's teaching.
His exemplary form was born from the churning of the many merits
Of the Tibetan race, the water-treasure of compassion.

The teaching of Lobsang Drakpa, the second Buddha:
Hail to the perfect lord of earth and sky who, independent of others,
Fiercely protects by blazing forth good deeds.

I've put into words this mind-stealing text
Of a hundred hues, in various forms,
Perfectly rendering both the "Noble Songs" and the "Good Sayings".
This is the Queen of the Peacock of Existence.
